Abstract
In this contribution, we present an innovative concept for future material flow systems, which are composed of small-scaled modular subsystems. By combining these basic modules, a large amount of different applications for internal logistics can be created. Standardized components, produced in large quantities, provide a high reliability by means of redundant application. The approach is modeled on complex organized structures in nature such as swarms or colonies.
