Abstract

According to ABB's Dr Bernard Nacke*, the main factors determining the erosion and deposit formation in a channel induction furnace are the electromagnetic forces acting on the melt, the flow in the channel and furnace vessel, the heat transfer between the channel and melt, and the refractory lining. Using experimental data and computer-based studies, ABB has been able to further improve this type of furnace.
