Abstract
This paper investigates the additional losses arising in a dual three-phase permanent magnet machine due to inverter current harmonics when considering interleaving. Depending on the offset angle of the three-phase windings and the modulation method used, relatively strong harmonics may arise in the machine's current spectrum. To predict the effect of interleaving on the current spectrum and additional machine losses, the phase angle between the dominant voltage harmonics for space-vector pulse width modulation is derived analytically and used to calculate the current harmonics for the load operation range, providing detailed insight into the loss mechanisms.
