Abstract
In a series of tests, it could be demonstrated that grouted joints have similar load-bearing capacities in the direction of both tensile and compressive load. The enclosing steel members ensure a highly ductile behavior of the joint even if very brittle high-performance concretes are used. Particularly in combination with high-performance or ultra-high performance concrete, the grouted joint technology can be used wherever hollow sections need to be connected or a reinforcement of steel structures is required. Conceivable applications include the reinforcement of braces or junctions in steel frameworks, the assembly of prefabricated modular steel members, or towers composed of sandwich materials with a sufficient hooping effect. In addition, such interconnected pipes provide highly beneficial options for the application in large-scale, long-span frameworks.
