Abstract

Niobium-MASC refractory alloys are nowadays of great interest to produce components operating in high-temperature environments, particularly turbine blades. Their manufacture can though be affected by strong inhomogeneity of the solid cast, which decreases their quality. This work proposes multiphysical numerical models to investigate and maximize the mixing process of the elemental components for Nb-MASC compounds melted in induction cold crucible furnace. The fluid flow generated by the multicomponent melt is calculated with the mixture model (Eulerian approach).
