T1 - Historical development of IWPMA
T2 - 10 years of research on piezoelectric materials and actuators

N1 - Funding Information: The idea of IWPMA is to provide a forum to bring together specialists from both the piezoelectric materials and the actuator communities. The first IWPMA was organised by Seok-Jin Yoon, Ki Hyun Yoon, Jörg Wallaschek and Kenji Uchino. It was held at the Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in Seoul, Korea, from 29 March until 31 March 2004. The workshop was sponsored by the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF), Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the Korean Ceramic Society, Center for Advanced Materials Processing, Kyungwon Ferrite Ind. Co., Ltd. and the National Research Lab for Active Structures and Materials in Konkuk University. Four tutorial courses and 54 contributed papers covered the fields of piezoelectric ceramics for communications, piezoelectric sensors and actuators, piezoelectric motors and theories of relaxor ferroelectrics. The workshop had a strong focus on Korean and German research groups and attracted about 70 scientists from more than eight countries.
