N2 - With a continuously increasing number of charging infrastructure, electrified mobility becomes more usable. Fast charging of electric vehicles complies with the user’s demand of a short recharging time. Thus, fast charging infrastructure is established at many key infrastructure locations, that are often predetermined due to gas stations and main transportation routes. Because of economic competitors, an accumulation of multiple fast charging infrastructure types can occur at the same location. Since the used components and control concepts vary between the manufacturers, each fast charging infrastructure type leads to a different spectrum of harmonics, that may challenge both communication and electric equipment in future active power grids, if summed up. To evaluate the occurring harmonic spectrums during AC and in particular DC charging, measurements were carried out in four publicly accessible fast charging infrastructures in a major German city over nearly a year. This paper shows the resulting spectrum for voltage odd harmonics up to the 39th order and supraharmonics from 2 kHz to 9 kHz within 200 Hz bands as 10 min RMS values during charging. The harmonics are distinguished between values of the total active charging power. The results provide important insights to the evaluation of EV fast chargers concerning grid compliances and are expected to improve the understanding related to occurring HF spectra during active charging cycles.
