Abstract
Stock-out Costs Affect Service Level. Material requested by the internal customer "production" is often not available. Despite costly high priority purchase requests and high levels of stock, the service level achieved on average is low. The relation between the service level and logistical costs is demonstrated in a model. For the first time, stock-out-costs are taken into account to determine a service level at an overall minimum cost. Stock-out-costs arise in the production when the material requested for assembly is not available.
