Abstract
The Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program (EnMAP) is a spaceborne German hyperspectral satellite mission that aims at monitoring and characterizing the Earth's environment on a global scale. The mission is now ready to start with the sensor being by end of 2021 in Flight Acceptance Review, ready to be shipped to the launch pad in early 2022. This paper presents first an update of the mission status with recent activities and developments from the space and the ground segment. Then, an update of selected highlights of the science segment activities at launch phase are presented including preparation and if possible early results for the validation of EnMAP products, updates on EnMAP science algorithms (EnMAP-Box) developed at GFZ, online education initiative (HYPERedu), and further mission support activities such as background mission.

N1 - Funding Information: The project management of the EnMAP mission is with DLR Space Agency. The major elements are the Space Segment led by OHB System AG, the EnMAP Ground Segment headed by DLR in Oberpfaffenhofen, and the Scientific Principal Investigator by GFZ Potsdam. The EnMAP science segment is supported by the EnMAP Science Advisory Group (EnSAG), a panel of national and international scientists, and the EnMAP science project teams. Prior to the launch of the EnMAP mission and on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the DLR Space Agency has set up a research funding program to prepare data exploitation and applications development for the mission. The EnMAP science program has provided since 2010 e.g. algorithm development for essential ecosystem parameters nowadays included into the EnMAP-Box, development for a wide range of applications that was demonstrated with EnMAP simulated thematic products, community building (summer schools, workshops) and training (HYPERedu), and airborne campaigns to acquire test data for EnMAP image simulations, that marks the science legacy of EnMAP preparation already before launch. Funding Information: EnMAP is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action through the DLR Space Agency. We wish to thank our institute partners from the EnMAP science P.I. project - Scientific preparation and support of the hyperspectral mission EnMAP – from the HU Berlin and University Greifswald, LMU München, and AWI Bremerhaven. S.C. thanks D. Scheffler and S. Guillaso for paper additional contributions.
