Abstract

One of the most important sources of traffic noise is caused by the rolling tires. Therefore, a reduction of tire noise is of great interest for automobile and tire manufactures. To accelerate this process of optimization, a numerical simulation technique for the analysis of tire noise radiation is presented in this paper. In a preliminary step the highly nonlinear problem of a steady state rolling tire is performed by the use of a special finite element technique. At this state of stationary motion the eigenmotion of the inflated rolling tire model is analyzed from which the velocities perpendicular to the tire surface corresponding to the eigenmodes are extracted. Based on these velocities given in spatial coordinates the sound pressure in the surrounding air is computed by use of the boundary element method. First promizing results are motivation for continuing the research in this direction.
