Abstract
The paper describes a numerical method for solving complex induction hardening tasks. The numerical simulation tool, which enables the 3D calculation of the transient heating process, is explained in detail. The use of the simulation tool is shown for the application of induction hardening of worms for worm-gears. Results for single frequency process and innovative simultaneous dual frequency heating are presented. Moreover, experimental results show the accuracy of the numerical calculation. First results of coupling the numerical simulation tool with an optimisation algorithm in order to carry out an automatic optimisation are described, too. The conclusion shows that numerical simulation tools are very helpful for solving complex induction hardening tasks.
