Abstract
This paper presents the design and optimization of UWB (Ultra WideBand) antennas for the integration into the chassis of a home-entertainment system. In the first step the shape of a planar monopole is optimized to provide broadband matching. Then the antenna is integrated at different positions into a model of a DVD player and the impact on the antenna performance is evaluated. Finally the transfer function of the complete system is extracted and used for propagation modeling in an artificial living home environment. The modeling of the complete antenna characteristics is based on FDTD simulations using the EMPIRE™ software. For the propagation modeling the ray-tracing software Wireless Insite is used. The results show that the antenna integration into the chassis leads to a directive radiation pattern that shows significant frequency dependence. Finally first simulation in order to calculate the network coverage in an artificial living room are performed comparing the integrated antenna inside the DVD player with an ideal isotropic antenna.
