Abstract
Beginning with software advantages for application of modern control theory in biotechnical research pilot plants, two models of different reaction systems are discussed. In the first part, a model for cultivation of bacteria in well mixed stirred tank reactors is used for process description and analysis. The second part deals with a model for a new type of bioreactor for cultivation of human and animal cells. A bubble free membrane aerated reactor leads to a complex of lumped and distributed parameter subsystems. The model is used for the construction of a coupled pO//2-pH-controller. The control behaviour is demonstrated and the implementation with an industrial process control microcomputer, MICON P-200, is discussed.
