Abstract
Heterotrophic cell suspension cultures of Ruta graveolens were established by reversion of photom ixotrophic cultures without any change in the chemical com position of the growth medium. The heterotrophic cultures were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by gaschromatography and m ass spectroscopy for volatile compounds. The terpenoid hydrocarbons geijerene and pregeijerene, C6-C8 ketones, acetic acid n-butylester and a series of aliphatic C4-C9 primary and secondary alcohols were found as main constituents. Two isom eric sabinene hydrates were also isolated as new constituents of rue cells. The data are discussed in com parison to results obtained with photom ixotrophic cell suspension cultures.
