Abstract
Since the middle of the 1990 s concepts of Lean Production have been discussed in research and realized in industry more intensively. In research IT-based concepts are developed for large scale production. In the industrial field usually the only aim is the reduction of manufacturing costs. Both approaches regard especially the manufacturing systems of internationally active corporations. The e-learning service CAPE by the Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools shows, even for SME´s, effective tools exist for minimize the waste.
