Abstract
High harmonic generation by a "long" infrared pulse is shown by a quantum interference method to produce a periodic train of 250 as pulses separated by 1.35 fs. Such a train is a potential source of a single attosecond pulse through polarization gating. Preliminary results of such a gating showing a spectral broadening up to a factor 2 are reported.
