Abstract

A more economically-rewarding way of monitoring the condition of electric power transformers is through a life-cycle management strategy than to check every aging transformer to rigorous inspection and extensive testing. Life-cycle management is about setting monitoring priorities and the implementation of strategic maintenance for the transformer. As such, technical diagnostics have been used to evaluate the transformers, and there are many ways to do this. They cover the measurement of parameters, the analysis of data and diagnosis of failure, and to electrical, thermal, mechanical and optical methods. There is also condition monitoring for rehabilitation of transformers.
