Abstract
In this paper we discuss some antenna and propagation aspects involved with the development of a localization system based on Ultra WideBand (UWB) technology intended for the integration into an aircraft cabin. The reference station consists of a pair of UWB monopoles that are integrated into the ceiling of the cabin. The integration is realized in a way to generate a directive down-tilted antenna pattern in order to illuminate the aisle of the cabin. The UWB radio channel of the cabin is characterized using a commercial ray tracing software. The influence of the antennas and the channel on the received pulse shape at the reference station launched by a mobile transmitter in the aisle of the cabin is investigated.
