Abstract
Gas turbines can satisfy the economic targets of operation in power plants only if they achieve low investment, maintenance, and in particular fuel cost. Under the conditions set by deregulated markets for electricity and heat, and high fractions of power to the grid from decentralized generation and additional cost of CO2 emissions, this requires - in to the development targets of high efficiency and power density - operational flexibility with respect to load and fuels. The present paper shows examples from the compressor, combustion, and turbine which demonstrate how manufacturers and universities jointly utilize additional potential fort he further development of gas turbines such that they continue to satisfy the markets' demands on efficiency, CO 2 emissions, load flexibility, and reliability in the future.
