Abstract

This study analyses the role of innovation centres in peripheral areas of the unified Germany. The author discusses the question if and under which conditions this instrument of local technology and development policy would be able to reach its goal in the periphery. The main emphasis is on the importance of this instrument within the "joint task for the improvement of regional economic structures' and its technological and economic effects. On the basis of this empirical analysis the author formulates concrete recommendations for the innovation centres' funding bodies, with which some of the intended efforts regarding growth chances of innovation centres in poor regions may be better achieved. -from English summary
