Abstract
A constitutive theory for stress adaptive bone remodeling based on energetic and thermodynamic considerations is presented. The constitutive theory leads to important conclusions about unknown model parameters, such as the relationship between the bone density and the Young modulus of bones tissue. The isotropic theory is extended to anisotropy by use of a fabric tensor description and a strategy for the numerical computation of anisotropic bone remodeling is suggested.
