Abstract

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife (dir. Jason Reitman)—the latest addition to the Ghostbusters franchise—has been repeatedly delayed and is scheduled for November 2021 at the time of writing. Unlike the 2016 reboot Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016, dir. Paul Feig), which took a fresh, tongue-in-cheek approach to the franchise with its gender-swap premise, in-jokes, cameos, and fanboy villain, Afterlife functions as a direct sequel to the 1980s Ghostbusters (1984, dir.
