An adequate nutrient supply is a prerequisite for maintaining all physiological functions and long-term health. Worldwide, deficiencies of certain micronutrients are a serious public health problem and also of socioeconomic importance. Up to now, knowledge on micronutrient supply in the Palestinian territories is limited, especially among women of childbearing age, a vulnerable population group. The aim of this research project is to determine the health and nutrition status among young Palestinian women at the age of 18 to 30 years (n=150). Within a cross-sectional study, comprehensive data regarding the supply with selected micronutrients (vitamin D, B12, folate, zinc, iron, selenium, iodine, long chain omega-3 fatty acids) will be collected. The results will identify a marginal and critical micronutrient supply status and influencing factors. The data can serve as a basis to derive measures for nutrition and health policy in the Palestinian territories but also to increase the consciousness of the importance of these micronutrients for health and well-being. With this joint project, a scientific bilateral cooperation in applied research on public health will be established to promote the education of young Palestinian researchers and to improve research infrastructures in the Palestinian territories.
